Hymn Playing: Just A Closer Walk With Thee |
|
| Bushwalking There are many reasons for going on regular walks. First, as Christians, we walk in the Australian bush to see and appreciate our Creators wonderful works. Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Another reason for walking is to keep our bodies fit and walking is one medically known way that we can do this. Walking exercises not only many muscles of the body but internal organs also. 1 Cor 6:19-20 - Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body. Each bush walk has been tested by the leader so that:
A short printed synopsis of the walk with instructions on how to get to the start of the walk and also details of the grade of the walk is provided. Participants are expected to be there for the starting time, if the walk instruction says 9:30 a.m. for 10:00 a.m. start then the walk will start promptly at 10:00 a.m. Who Can Go Bush Walking? Anyone who is reasonably fit can bush walk, however if you have never been on a walk before then you should choose easy walks for your first attempts. It is also helpful if prospective walkers do some private walking in their own area to build the body up to being used to long stretches of walking. The walking groups walks can last overall from 3 up to 5 hours including rest and lunch breaks. Some require extra effort on the walkers part because, to see the best of God's creation, many times we have to descend into valleys and naturally if we walk down into a valley then it is reasonable to expect to walk back up at the conclusion of the walk. We do try, where the trail permits, to go in at the steepest part and come back out on a lesser grade. All walks are on reasonably defined walking tracks and stairs are provided both to climb out of valleys and to navigate round rock ledges etc. Do not get the idea that bush walking is along perfectly flat and level trails, there are very few trails which do not have some form of up and down along their length even those along our coastline like the Spit to Manly. Sometimes walkers will be required to step over rocks to navigate over difficult areas or to cross creeks etc but the leader will never choose walks which he considers too difficult for the average walker. He will also try to choose walks which will be interesting and show different aspects of this wonderful land in which we live. So Why Should I Walk? Bush walking can be an extremely rewarding and exhilarating experience, can help keep you fit, and give you peace of mind and take you away from the cares of the world we live in and can of course draw you closer to God. Come and join us and share in this rewarding pastime as we explore this wonderful land that our Creator has given us. THE WALKS ARE HELD ON THE THIRD SATURDAY OF EACH MONTH SO IF YOU ARE INTERESTED CONTACT THE CHURCH FOR FURTHER DETAILS.
